The inaugural Sport and Wellbeing Expo was held in 2013 and was a resounding success with over 75 exhibitors (estimate was 25-30) and nearly 400 people attending and the 2nd Expo in 2016 was another great success.
Back in 2012 a member of the local community approached St Philip’s College asking it to provide a venue for an event that would promote local sporting and service clubs. Unfortunately, that event didn’t go ahead.
However, late in 2012, following notification from the NT Government that it would be staging its own careers/jobs/skills expo and were rebranding and expanding the outlook and target market for the Careers Expos around the Territory, St Philip’s made the very difficult decision to cease organising the highly successful Alice Springs Careers Expo it had run for the past 18 years.
Still wanting to do something for the community, the College was in a position to ‘take up the baton’ and accept a new and exciting challenge - the Sport and Wellbeing Expo.
This community event fits perfectly with the College’s holistic approach to learning and life skills; also the facilities at the College including the Bruce Reid Sports Centre, The Minnamurra Hall and the College oval are perfect to host such an event. The 19 years experience gained in hosting the highly successful Careers Expo and in staging the past two Alice Springs Sport & Wellbeing Expos paid off.
Many exhibitors were ecstatic with the response they received on the night.
